Hi Tsha,
How would you feel if a family member or friend was being discriminated against?
It can give them a sense of power and it can make them feel superior especially if they aren't challenged. If they are challenged by enough people they may reconsider their views and actions.
It can cause a split in society between those who go along with it and those who see it as an injustice. There will also be those (often the majority) who might not agree with it but don't want to get involved - until it actually starts to affect their own lives.
