1.2 give examples how carers or others may misinterpret communication.

2.4 compare a reality orientation approach to interactions with a validation approach

3.4 describe how the behaviour of carers or others might affect an individual with dementia

anyone who did this unit your help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi molliann,

1.2 They might see an outburst as anger when it is just frustration, they might see a smile as agreement or permission when the individual hasn't really understood what they have been asked. That sort of thing.

2.4 See these:

http://www.zarcrom.com/users/alzheimers/4-14.html

http://medicine.jrank.org/pages/1448/Reality-Orientation.html

http://www.parentgiving.com/elder-care/alzheimers-caregiving-with-the-validation-method/

http://alzheimers-review.blogspot.com/2011/11/validation-approach-to-alzheimers.html

3.4 A lack of understanding can make carers provide the wrong sort of support, some carers might be overprotective and do too much for the individual, some people think dementia is funny and laugh at the individual.....and so on. How might these affect the individual with dementia?

Hope that helps

Aunty Sue
