Hi guys can anyone help me with what health and safety factors you need to take into consideration when moving and handling individuals and when using moving and handling equipment?

Have researched all the legislations but am not sure what they are actually looking for.

Thanks for your help x

Hi gonzo,

Health and safety factors would be things such as using the correct equipment, making sure that it is working properly, using it as it is meant to be used, keeping the area clear of hazards etc. Just think about what you do when moving and handling and what and why things could go wrong at each stage if it isn't done safely.

Hope that helps

Thanks for that - it was pretty much what I had written so good to know I was on the right track.

I have to now
 - give an example of when you would stop a manoeuvre
 - give 2 examples of when you may have to seek advice or assistance to move or position an individual safely
 - what advice and information is available about moving and handling individuals?

..................any ideas to get me started please x

Hi gonzo,

Think about when something has gone wrong with equipment, the manoeuvre or the individual.

If you think the care plan is no longer suitable, if you need training.

Think about policies and procedures, equipment manuals, training etc.

Hope that helps
