Enable individuals to negotiate environments

1.1Analyse  how a range of conditions and or disabilities may impact on individuals
being able to negotiate environments

1.3 Establish how environmental barriers to individuals negotiating environments can be addressed .

Hi littlelady,

1.1 think about sight impairment, wheelchairs, walking frames, unsteadiness etc.

1.3 Make space, remove rugs etc, keep the layout familiar (for sight impaired), stair lifts, ramps etc.

Hope that helps

Hi kingazid,

Furniture and space, changes to a familiar environment, uneven floor surface eg rugs, steps etc. What can you do to minimise -problems?

Think about what you do - make it safe, guide, risk assessments, care planning, provide resources.....and so on.

Hope that helps

Hi littlelady,

Resources could include a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist and what they advise eg exercises, walking sticks, walking frames, ramps etc but it also includes the resources your setting can provide such as a member of staff to guide an individual or better lighting in a hallway or stairs etc.

Hope that helps
