It is important to observe the reactions of a service user when you are communicating with them to:

- Ensure that the service user is fully understood. In relation to transactional analysis, Mehrabian's communication model suggested that only seven percent of meaning is in the words spoken, whilst thirty eight percent are paralinguistic and fifty five percent is in the facial expressions/body language.

- You can use the reactions you've interpreted from the service user to determine how to proceed
