hi auntie sue, I've just answered this question what ways can you positively reinforcing an individuals participation in a range of new activities? I answered: I always use a positive reinforcement that is of value to the service users I support. Different ways of positively reinforcing include: Rewards Praise Compliments Saying “thank you for your help” But now I'm stuck on this question: how could you evaluate these positive reinforcements methods. thank you for helping.

Evaluation could be done via behavioural charts for example - so if the service user displays challenging behaviour, positive reinforcement may be utilised to help them cope better in certain situations but you may need to identify a pattern of behaviour first to establish where and when outbursts occur, then put the strategies into place to try and help the individual find other, more socially acceptable ways of dealing with their feelings and as the new strategies are being tried, the behavioural charts can then help identify and evaluate whether the new methods are actually helping/working.
Plain old care plans also help as this should have a running record of the service user's support needs for the day although they aren't as specific as behavioural charts.
Hope that makes sense!
