Hello Aunty Sue,
Well, that made facinating reading.  Shame survey is closed as I would have liked to contribute.  My impression is that units are a lot simpler than NVQ units and that some are based purely on knowledge which I think is a shame as care is very much a hands on job.  I know you need to understand what you're doing but I know some of my candidates would run a mile from that sort of unit and would not be able to provide the written evidence that is required.  I understand you can choose your units and presumambly avoid these academic units but I was struck by how few required real work situations to generate the evidence.
There is still so much that is very unclear, all those hours required! Will we ever complete anyone? I work on a freelance basis, paid on completion so I can sense some hard times ahead for me!  And it's meant to be up and running in 4 months now.  Looking forward to see how it all works out.
And, just another thought, how will Apprenticeships work with the new system?
Thank goodness I like a challnge.

Hi steadysue,

As you say they do seem academic and will require a deal of knowledge input from assessors. Now we know why assessors are being advised to gain a teaching qualification but will we be paid at the teacher rate?

Like you I think that a lot of people may find them too much of a challenge. Few will have the time to commit to them.

For Apprentices they will probably replace the two qualifications required now with this one qualification. Its almost as if they were designed with Apprentices in mind. They certainly don't seem to have been planned around a busy mum who works full time in a care home.

I may be completely wrong and it will turn out to be an ideal qualification. We shall see. I for one will try to remain optimistic.

Hi Chris a,

Those units have been removed. These are the latest draft units, they are for higher levels:

Hope that helps
