Hi suuuuuz,

You listen to what the individual has to say about their needs and preferences. It is then your role to make sure that they are, for example, based on the best information available or their own views and not what they have been told to say.

You listen to the views of key people and again you consider, for example, if their views are in the best interest of the individual or best for them or if their views are reasonable as they will be involved in providing care.

If you are involved in assessing the needs of individuals you should have a working knowledge of their condition/s so that your judgements are fair and ethical.

Hope that helps
